POUGHKEEPSIE – “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

Health Quest will present “Food as Medicine,” an interactive and informative heart-healthy dining event to explore the deeper meaning of those words from Hippocrates to celebrate the extra day of Heart Month.

The gathering is from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 29, at Le Express Bistro and Bar, 1820 New Hackensack Road, Poughkeepsie.

For $25, guests will dine on a healthy, locally sourced, four-course meal at Le Express while learning how to make healthy cooking choices from local connoisseurs of food and well-being.

Le Express chef and proprietor John Lekic will prepare the meal and offer healthy recipes and cooking tips.Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food

“Great, healthy food has to start with great, healthy ingredients,” Lekic said. “The food we eat has a direct correlation with our physical and mental health. We aim to educate and inspire attendees of this event, to show that it’s possible to eat local, organic, healthy food on a budget.” rp_Healthy-Weight-Loss.jpg

The menu includes a seasonal salad for the first course and a choice of carrot ginger soup or slow cooker chicken soup for the second. The entrée selections are Cedar Plank Grilled Wild Alaskan Salmon, King Oyster Mushroom Paprikash or Beef Bourguignon. The dessert course features Baked Organic Gold Rush Apples from Fishkill Farms or Beet and Kale Brownies.
